Stephen A. Barnes

Mr. Barnes became one of the youngest board-certified civil trial attorneys in Florida at age 33 and was recertified in 2007.   He is proud to be AV Pre-eminent* peer and judicial review rated by Martindale-Hubbell, the highest rating for ethical standards and legal ability.

Mr. Barnes strongly believes that once an injured person or family member of a lost loved one places their trust in the Barnes Trial Group, it is his moral obligation to provide the client the strength and attention they need and deserve and to obtain a full recovery of money damages to balance the harms and losses suffered by the client.  Since 1994, Mr. Barnes has worked relentlessly to build a reputation as a highly skilled trial lawyer.  He believes that an insurance company will not settle a claim for its true value unless and until they are faced with a trial being conducted by a well prepared and skilled trial attorney.  When an insurance company fail to do so, Mr. Barnes has and will commit the firm’s substantial resources to securing our clients the recovery and verdict they deserve.

A lifelong resident of Florida, Mr. Barnes attended the University of Florida and obtained his undergraduate degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance. Thereafter, he attended Stetson University College of Law in St. Petersburg, earning his degree in 2 1/2 years.  He was selected as a member of Stetson’s mock trial team, one of the top in the country, and competed nationwide against other law schools.  This planted the seeds for Mr. Barnes devoting his professional life to trial work and presenting his clients’ cases to juries.

He is the proud husband of his wife, Jessica, who works at the firm.  They share five adult children who are earning or have earned their college and advanced degrees.
